Microsoft not supporting XP, how does this affect you?

21 May 2014

There’s been much press about Microsoft removing support from Windows XP, Office XP and Office 2003 as of 8th April, but how might this affect PPM Software and your practice?

Whilst Windows and Office XP products will still work, not being supported means that in time any software application will stop working with these versions, but more worryingly there will no longer be any security updates, potentially putting your practice at risk.

So what next?
The Microsoft XP product range dates back to 2001-2003 so it’s only reasonable that Microsoft might want you to upgrade after over 11 years, and the modern Microsoft products are better and more flexible than ever before, which can never be a bad thing.

With operating systems, Windows 7 is popular as is the latest Windows 8.1 update, which offers support for touch-screen computing too.

With a new operating system and software, in practical terms it’s often more cost effective to upgrade hardware too.

For more advice and information on upgrading your Microsoft products or upgrading your IT Hardware, get in contact with our support team on 0116 271 5130. We can arrange to assist you in installing PPM and transferring your data to your new computer.

How about the PPM Software product?
If you do decide to upgrade your Windows software you will need to ensure that you take a full backup before proceeding with the upgrade – this is of paramount importance.

If you’re not sure or need help, call us to ensure that you have a valid backup before proceeding.

We would also like to encourage all users who are still running older versions of ‘PPM’, (version 3.x), to upgrade to the newer version of ‘PPM’ as we will no longer be able to support the older version of ‘PPM’ either from after 8th April 2014.

The very latest version offers many new features. For full details please contact the support desk
